Neither Atlanta Nor Early 90's

but i had to post this for the non belivers. With all the talk about hip hop being dead and all i wanted to post this vid that i feel shows why that isnt true at all. In front of 300,000 mostly white indie rocker fans, Jay Z performed and absolutely smashed it. Wanye sold a Milli and now this. Thank God For artists like Jay, Kanye, Ross, And wayne cause they are taking this shit even further, and single handily saving hip hop.

Just Cause

If not my fav song right now, then definately my fav comeback of the year. Produced by Atlanta's own Polow, this shit is seriously gonna push Nas back to the forefront again. Crazy production, classic Nasir flow. Shit is too crazy, then the switch up on the second verse the last 8 bars is stupid as hell. This is gonna seem like a dickriding post ...no homo but I have to say Polow is pretty much giving niggas the bizzness with these first singles. Get money

One Of My Top 5

Hes had alot of ups and downs lately but hopefully he can put all that shit behind him and make more heat. Its crazy when hes on that positive shit, he says the realest shit ever. Love this song

Ladies And Gentlemen..The Realest Nigga Alive

Everytime this dude speaks i listen. Very intelligent and probably one of the 10% of rappers who actually read and stay up on current events. I dont even like calling him a rapper, cause in short most "rappers" are fucking selfish. Hes more apart of the caring, intelligent, working class then a rapper anyday. Hes always been a favorite of mine cause hes speaks from his heart and his mind. Most these niggas wake up and the first thing they think about is how and the hell am I gonna fool these niggas today. To me the real gangstas is either dead or in jail, or in the library or in serving in the senate or iraq. Never believe what a nigga will dream up and put in a verse, unless it comes from Killer.

Money And Music

Fucking Right

Pretty much the message is stay humble and focused and be thankful for what you have. Making money off of music is great, but at the end of the day your attitude and your desire for this should be higher than what your checking account balance says. Heres a vid i added to my Fav's on youtube. Its the producer Alchemist speaking on Music and being able to live off of it.

If I Could Record Like This...

So i was just looking at some of the old dvd's i had laying around and found this laying around. The Morning View Sessions from the incubus album Morning view that i bought way back in 02. I really loved this band and would buy anything they did. this is when i was really into recording and finding out all i could about how it was done. The rented this house out in Malibu for like the entire summer recording their album. It just looked like so much fun, getting to record great stuff like this and be in a huge mansion out in malibu by the water. had to be the best engineering gig ever in life. i couldnt find too many vids on the net with the stuff thats on the dvd but heres some that i found.

So Im Up Late Playin Xbox

so as usual i get home from my session and i cant sleep. My Tre60 stays on all the time so i dont have to wait for it to load or anything and im too lazy to just hit the power button, so i started playin GOW and looking at studio vids on youtube. I thought it would be a great post for all you late night lurkers out there who would probably end up at some adult site sooner or later, this would distract you from the porn and maybe you would learn something instead. lol anyway here are some of my fav videos about studio shit on youtube...enjoy you perv's

Just kiding, AJ's the best. We didnt really have a session booked but as always we got it poppin anyway. Ry Ry and the newest homie straight from the hard streets of alpharetta, a country club resident as well Justin, hes a guitar player/songwriter and hes only 15, hes dope as hell too. His mom was nice enough to bring us cookies too which was also cool. Corporal and Montay stopped thru to lend their writing expertise to a new track AJ had stashed away behind all that old lady porn on his hard drive lol. heres some pics and the song came out hot, really excited about it.

One Of The Best

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/feb07/articles/insidetrack_0207.htm

So i said i was gonna start posting more stuff on the engineering side of music. I was thinking of doing some cool interview type deal with some of my peers that I look up to, especially tracking wise. So until I get that shit together Ill post links and articles and vids of stuff that ive found on the net so far. Here's a link to a really cool article in Sound On Sound Magazine (btw the online subscription for this is so worth the 20 or 30 bucks it costs) Of an interview with Phil Tan. Now if you dont know who he is, you might wanna look up his discography on allmusic.com. This guy has mixed some of the biggest records of the last 15 years or so. Definately a huge favorite of mine as well.

Heres another article from Digidesign with Phil And Jermaine Dupri's Main engineer John Horesco. Really cool article about working with JD and the process of making and mixing records with him at Southside Studios

For The Nerds

Saw this cool vid on an engineering/production forum I read quite a bit, Ken Lewis has worked on some pretty big projects, including Confessions, The college dropout, And The blueprint. The premise for the video is like a spinoff of the mtv show cribs, but more focused on Recording setups. Cool idea, hope they keep em coming. Im gonna start posting more engineering links and vids in the future like this stuff.

Classic ATL Slimm Cutta Calhoun's "The Skinny"

Slimm Cutta Calhoun's "The Skinny" was released on Nov. 7th 2000 and to me and my friends and many others was an instant classic. Another Organized Noize Production Slimm was signed to Outkasts Aquemini Label before it disbanded some years later. This is when these dudes were serious about putting out acts still, this too me was one of if not their best effort from that out print. I remember riding around to this joint forever just beating this shit till i played it out. I know yall remember "It's Ok" with Andre 3k when he was still in his Badu days wearing the big bug eye'd shades and the pitched up voice. One of the weirdest video cameo's by far, this niggas dressed up like a worm or something from Alice in Wonderland, but whatever its still Dre ripping verses as usual.

Then theres my favorite, "The Cut Song". His second single from the album became an instant anthem, I know niggas was trying to get buns with this joint here lol. It really had niggas saying they was getting some cutty, or trying to cut something, all over the place. I remember one of my teachers heard us talking about getting some cut and thought we was talking about stabbing someone lol. By this time my parents had taken new jobs and we moved to Kansas City. Niggas out there were even saying it and running with it.

I love his album, joints like "Red Clay" "Dirt Work" and "Worldly Ways" all sound like joints that could have easily made a Kast album. I feel like this is a quiet classic like not alot of people even really remember him putting out an album but they know the singles. Its a great album, its got the features you would expect from a dungeon family memeber and the production team that made endless classics. Im not to sure what hes up to now, I actually see him around the A every once and a while just chilling out and about. Heres his myspace doesnt really say much about what hes up too lately but im sure hes still working on material. You can also get His album "The Skinny" on itunes For 9.99 which is cheaper than what it is in stores and its a classic.

Birthday Bash!

yea so im on a roll with this whole having a blog deal, i wish i had some of my own photos to put in here about the show, but I dont. It was cool caus ei missed last years show and kinda sucked cause i was working but Ga Power definately aint free so whatever, but this years show was crazy too. I love being out in the crowd and just seeing everyones reaction to songs and performers but since i tagged along with some friends i actually got to see the joint from backstage which was cool to. If ya missed the show, you didnt really miss much but Jeezy did have the best set by far, he brought out The Dream, Usher , and Kanye West on stage for his set. It was like summer Jam in NY, he kept bringing em out. The beef between Shawty And Tip and them going back and forth about having the best set was some ish cause neither one of them niggas came close to J's set. Heres some pics and vids of what went on Sat. ( Side note: I stopped by PWR to see a friend and ended up doing a session with Gucci, till 2:30am some on the spot type shit lol)

The ATL, Man The scene was so thick

So i decided to start a blog about some of the things I love most about living and working in Atlanta. If your reading this chances are you already know me, but for those who dont My names Jeremy. Im a freelance engineer based out of Atlanta, Ga and have been doing so for about 3 years and some change.

Whats so crazy about all this is after all those trips and moving around so much the years following, is that i made it back here to do exactly what i intended to do all those years. Working on records that hopefully one day will inspire someone else to do music, whether it be producing, writing or engineering. i would always see the same names and wonder what the hell went on in the studio. What exactly did an engineer do? What was mixing? I would always see the same names too. Neal Pogue, Josh Butler, Phil Tan, Leslie Brathwaite, John Frye. I used to listen and try and guess who did what with what engineer lol. Its funny the same guys names i would read in the credits back then Im working with now. Those names inspired me to do what i do now. I love engineering. I love tracking and building songs from nothing and making the song sound the way it should. All those years of listening to albums and critiquing music was like my education and training in sound. I would fall alseep to that stuff all the time and end up having dreams about working on stuff one day. It really is a dream come true honestly. Even when stuff gets to be redundant and im really kinda burnt out, i think about when i was wishing to be here doing this, and i get my motivation back. I wouldnt trade the relationships or the memories ive had so far here for the world. Ive made alot of really cool friends and they all are great at what they do. Sometimes during sessions i just look around and im amazed ive made it so far.

I want this blog to kinda give a small insight into what its like to engineer records in this industry now. Alot of things have changed since i first started interning back in 2005. Ive made mistakes and at the same time made leaps and bounds in my career. i want anyone else who has a career in the field or in music period, to be able to maybe give some advice to those who have questions about what it is we do exactly.

So here at the bottom I put up some of the albums and songs that i feel really made me fall for the music here. some of you might remember these joints others not so much. Heres a couple of the songs ...
